Materials Needed to Begin!
For Beginners 7 and under:
1. Box violin (for about 1-2 months) then we’ll move to a real violin.
You can find links below on places to rent or buy a violin.
2. Suzuki Book 1 Revised Edition with the CD (link below)
For Beginners 7-adult:
1. Violin (renting/buying in the area listed below)
2. Suzuki Book 1 Revised Edition with the CD (link below)
3. I Can Read Music by Joanne Martin (link below)
★ Students who are transferring from another teacher should make sure they have the Suzuki book they are currently in or ask me to evaluate what volume will best fit their level.
Music Books
Suzuki Books
We use the Suzuki method and their books. Make sure you get the REVISED edition with the CD (~$14)
Note Reading
Joanne Martin’s I Can Read Music (~$11) Here is what it looks like as well:
You can buy both these books from me as well, I usually have a couple extra on hand.
Instrument
Box Violin/Viola
Young beginners will need to start on a box violin. There are a lot of basics we need to establish before we can move to the real violin. I can make you one or you can order one like this website has available for order http://www.young-musicians.com/foam-a-lin-tm-pre-twinkle-violin-trainer-bow.html#.UtmYHWTnYy4
Renting Instruments
I’ve enjoyed violins in my studio from KC Strings. Here is their website: http://kcstrings.com
They have locations in both Merriam and Olathe.
Meyer Music is prominent especially in schools in the area. http://www.meyermusic.com/product-group/violin/ Overland Park and Olathe
Another option for either renting or buying is http://www.beckmannviolins.com
They are located at 5600 Johnson Dr, Mission, KS 66202.
Buying instruments
For the most part – DO NOT buy instruments online!! Yes, you can find a good one but rarely. I would buy from a store or another person.
If you’re going to invest in buying an instrument, I’d love to come with you to the shops to help you find a good one!
