Studio Requirements

Before Joining Studio:

  • Observe 2 hours of lessons
  • Read parent packet (I will email you this)
  • Purchase Suzuki Book 1 International Edition with Hilary Hahn’s recording – must be Hilary Hahn and begin listening
  • Join the Suzuki Association of Utah, I can help with this registration
  • Attend your first lesson (parent only) where we discuss practicing and expectations on both sides
  • Do not buy a violin yet!

Requirements After Joining Studio:

  • Attend weekly lessons
    • Bring notebook, instrument, required books – here is what is required for beginners
    • Please arrive on time, remove shoes, and wash your hands before each lesson. You are welcome to walk in
    • The parent must write practice notes for their home practice with the child
    • Practice Expectations
  • Attend monthly group classes and yearly recitals
  • Plan to attend the following SAU events
    • January Parent-Teacher Convention. This is held on a Saturday once per year. It is a mini convention of classes and sessions on the Suzuki method and family involvement in music
    • February book graduation every year you are eligible, great to attend even if you’re in the middle of a book
  • Participate in at least one outside event per year – check the financial commitments for these early, options include:
    • Intermountain Suzuki String Institute | June This is a one-week violin-packed Summer day camp. For preschool – high school ages. Around a $600-$700 depending on age. You must attend each class with your child under 12 or have someone attend with them and take notes + enjoy the camp together. More info at issisuzuki.org
    • Utah Valley String Festival | March For preschool – high school ages. $20 fee. This is an opportunity for a memorized solo performance or ensemble piece for two judges, you receive feedback from other teachers on two pieces. It is a great recital-type experience with students from throughout Utah County. More information at uvstringfestival.org
    • Community Orchestra | Ongoing throughout school year
